Predator (2022 Marvel) #1A

Predator (2022 Marvel) #1A

What an amazing story. With more than a year waiting for this title, the wait was totally worth it. Brisson brings us a surprising and fresh story to the Predator tale. Hunt, kill, repeat… But what happens when the Predator becomes the prey? The storyline is impressive with a mind blowing twist within the first five pages. Not long ago, I wrote a review criticizing the repetitive narrative of Alien. Predator has done it right. While maintaining the premise, the writer has expanded and explored the universe. Such a promising book!

Art on the other side is dark with a lot of black ink. But don’t worry, there is an amazing attention to detail to every aspect of the Predator, from the face to the armor.  There is an occasional use of abstract backgrounds to avoid distraction of main action panels. Movement is perfectly captured with a sense of dynamic and organic poses. Characters feel they are about to move. Such a great study of anatomy. The use of panels reside in the more classic style while colors dictate the change of scenes. There is however a big presence of a green palette which would be expected from a Predator story.

There are so many amazing covers we couldn’t just pick one. But here are the ones our staff liked the most. 1A by Leinil Yu depicting a predator with a purple background. Such attention to detail. A classic and beautiful approach. Cover 1J by Skottie Young. A playful and chibi-ish cartoon of the Predator. Why is this so cute and perfect?  I am loving it and now I want to go buy a Funko. Cover 1K by David Finch. This is probably the darkest cover from the whole set. It portrays Predator on top of the Avengers building with Iron Man’s head. We have had a run of Predator covers in other comics but this is by far the darkest one. While I know some Iron Man fans have been displeased (my partner included) I have to say it is genius, dark and horrifying. It is definitely a must have cover!
