Campbell has set the pieces to start the biggest event of the year for IDW, The Armageddon Game led by the Rat King. The story takes a huge twist as it is Shredder himself, now reformed Oroku Saki, the one to watch over them and train them for the war to come. An amazing new arch where the Turtles have to co-exist with their arch-enemy while he is trying to atone himself. It is very exciting to see where the plot is headed while involving many important characters. As a big Shredder fan, I must say it is mindblowing to see him working together with the Turtles.
The art is different from what we have been seeing in the last issues. We transitioned from a minimalistic style with pastel tones to more aggressive inks and darker colors that greatly depict nature. The amount of details in the backgrounds enhances those surreal nightmarish scenes as the classical use of panels decomposes into perfectly weird panels. The colors divide scenes even when the style is the same and this greatly helps differentiate one scene from another even when they all connect.ย
We got B Cover done by Kevin Eastman. The art is gruesome and visually violent. A perfect depiction of the storyโs main plot without giving away too much information. Once you revisit the cover after reading the book you understand all the references. The slight use of the Shredder helmet with Leoโs eyes is the perfect concept that resumes both the beginning and ending of the book. As always, his art makes us subconsciously travel to the colorful 80s.
